Eavesdropping on all things Berlin related
One of the loveliest bars in Mitte has to be Brut. Situated in what was once SystM on Torstrasse, Brut has transformed the space into a stylish gem of a bar. Upon opening last year, Brut quickly became my go-to bar. I go there because I know that the staff will always be welcoming, the lighting soft, the wine exceptional and the music good. It is a great place for a relaxed drink, after work, before the party or just because.
The decor is a mixture of antique industrial and rustic, with a focus on real textured wood surfaces. It’s heavy wooden table tops, wooden benches and painted wooden chairs are stylish but unassuming. The wooden bar in particular has a special tactile quality: I have many times seen patrons unconsciously stroking the grain of the wood as they talked to their neighbor.
The wine has been carefully selected
, and is great value for the price (Update April 23rd: Sadly the prices have increased significantly in the last month). I am a white wine drinker most nights and I can recommend their Rieslings and their Weißburgunder whole-heartedly.
Take note, weekends can be quite packed, but you can still usually find some space to hang out. Weekdays remain the ideal time for a visit.
