Eavesdropping Berlin

Eavesdropping on all things Berlin related

A visit to Aunt Benny’s

Searching for a great sandwich in Berlin has its challenges. Most bakeries have standards on offer, but very few places actually experiment much at all. So I have made it my mission to find and celebrate great sandwiches!

Aunt Benny, a great cafe in eastern Friedrichshain, offers just what I have been looking for.

Opened by a Canadian siblings, Aunt Benny is just a hop skip from the Frankfurter Allee S-bahn. I may be some what partial as a Canadian myself, but the design of the space and choice of the goodies on offer definitely do it for me!

But the biggest selling point is certainly the sandwiches. The highlights are an apple cheddar panini and the very good “piknik” sandwich (a sort of antipasti-toasted sandwich). They also have some superb salads, quiches and cakes.

The place is right on Traveplatz, a lovely Friedrichshain park. It has big bright windows, good music and free wi-fi during the week.

There is no reason not to try it out!
